August is more than half way gone and September is just around the corner,....as is October, November and December. We have just finished up a very exciting summer! So, for a quick look back, along with our up-coming events and activities.
"Keys in the Cities" piano project
Elisa Schmidt painted the KITC piano located at the Lansing City Market (pictured above) and we also added two Keys in the Cities pianos (below) into Charlotte with maybe two more being added, bringing the Charlotte piano total to four! This is a project spearheaded by Kalli Dempsey from Windwalker Underground Gallery, and Josh Holliday from LEAP, CanDo, Hayes Green Beach, Charlotte Rising, plus many other contributing partners from that community.
The Arts Council of Greater Lansing has asked that we present two more pianos at the Lansing Center for the Creative Placemaking Summit October 11th. This means we'll finally have to get started on the "Big Yellow" upright. Beth was hoping that a community of artists could paint it in a Peter Max kind of style. We'll shoot for that as a First Sunday ARTZ activity September 10th.
First Sunday ARTZ
Our First Sunday ARTZ begins again on the second Sunday in September due to the Labor Day holiday. So September 10th, we'll be back in the Keys Court with artists doing their thing, demonstrations, music and we'll be painting the next piano there. The rest of the First Sunday ARTZ will be October 1st, and November 5th. No plans on a First Sundays ARTZ event for December as Santa is usually in that area, but things may change this year. Remember First Sunday ARTZ artists keep 100% of their sales.
Tables are $20, but free to Keys members.
We are still reaching out for artists to submit for the October exhibit in the Event Gallery, "Michigan: Highways, byways, icons, people or places"
This should be a very popular event, so get in early.
Get creative, pocket some holiday cash! For more information see
The November Event exhibit is "Blue: What does it mean to you?"
This should be a great opportunity for holiday sales!
Holiday Art Exhibit for Artists and Artisans
This will be in the Event Gallery and is open to member artists, or any artist that wants to pay a $36 entry fee and with that we'll give them a free membership (funny how that works). The idea is to fill the space with all kinds of locally produced work. Think beautiful high quality gifts that Aunt Clara might purchase. We will need someone watching that space pretty much all the time as there will be lots of smaller items available for sale. Those that are willing to get work into the gallery by early November, your work can be part of the First Sunday ARTZ art exhibition.
We are starting our classes in September, see
for more information. We will also be starting a poetry/art class beginning in October for middle and high school students. More on that as it develops.
